Meet Darlin

Darlin came to us from Tennessee with frightened eyes and a body that told a hard story. She had been rescued by the ASPCA from a property where she and other donkeys were left starving. Resources were scarce, and in their desperation, some members of the herd did not survive. The trauma of that environment left deep marks, not just physically, but emotionally.

When Darlin first arrived, she was scared and painfully lonely. She kept her distance, unsure of human hands and uncertain of her new surroundings. Every sound startled her. Every movement made her step back. Trust was something she had learned not to give.

Over the past year, Darlin has been surrounded by patience, consistency, nourishment, and gentle care. Slowly, the walls she built for survival began to soften. She started watching with curiosity instead of fear. She began stepping closer. Then one day, she took a treat from an open palm.

Today, Darlin loves people. She eagerly eats treats from your hand and leans into deep scratches with complete trust. She has found her place within our herd, moving with confidence and calm. The once-frightened donkey who arrived withdrawn and uncertain now greets visitors with bright eyes and a steady presence.

Darlin’s journey is a reminder of what safety, compassion, and time can do. She is not just surviving — she is thriving.

Because of your donations, stories like Darlin’s are possible. Your support allows us to rescue, rehabilitate, and care for animals who now play an important role in our therapy program, offering comfort, connection, and healing to others, just as they themselves were once healed.

From abandoned to adored. From fearful to flourishing. We are so thankful for Darlin, and for you.
